TCC Jazz Festival

The Tulsa Community College Performing Arts Division and the Music Department are pleased to announce the Second Annual TCC jazz festival on Thursday, April 1^st. This festival will run from 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. and participation will be limited to 14 bands.

Our judges/clinicians for this festival will be: James Rocillo, professional trumpet player and music professor at Riverside Community College, CA; Eric Willie, professional percussionist and music professor from Tennessee Tech University, TN; Don Bailey, Director of Jazz Studies from University of Arkansas, Fort Smith; and finally, Dr. Tommy Poole, professional saxophonist and music professor from Northeastern State University. Dr. Poole will be taking notes during your performance and will clinic the band until the other adjudicators get on stage.

These are the scores from the 2009 OSSAA State Jazz Contest. The contest took place at Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond on April 28th and 29th. Many thanks to those who sent these scores and rankings in from both days.

Judges for this event were Jim Laughlin, Bart Marantz, and Bill Snodgrass in the Auditorium and Lisa Hittle, Alex Parker, and Milas Yoes in the Judd Theater.

Screaming Eagles Jazz Festival 2009

In more upcoming festival news, Joe Metzer sent us some information about the Edison Jazz Festival.

Joe sent us a message to use using the contact form, which would be a lovely way for you to add information about your contests as well.

This year’s contest will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at the Edison Preparatory School Auditorium. The entry fee for the contest is $125.00 per band, due with entry form, no later than Thursday, March 26, 2009.

Green Country Jazz Festival 2009

Information on the 2009 Green Country Jazz Festival has been posted at the NSU Jazz Lab website. This year’s featured artist is trumpeter Randy Brecker.

The Judges Jam featuring trumpeter Randy Brecker will take place on Sunday March 1 at the Jazz Lab
The contest itself will take place on Monday March 2 with the concert that evening starting at 7:30pm.

A Message from Keith Talley,

“I hope this email finds you well and that your semester is going smoothly. You are receiving this email because you have attended the SWOSU jazz festival within the past few years. The deadline for this year’s festival was on Friday. However, I do have a few spots available if you would like to bring a group but had not yet sent in an application.

This year’s festival will feature the Clayton Brothers Quintet which includes: Grammy award winning composer, arranger and bassist John Clayton; Jeff Clayton, saxophone; Terell Stafford, trumpet; Obed Calvaire, drums; and Gerald Clayton, piano.

If you do plan to attend, please fill out the attached application and contact me as soon as possible before space fills up. If you do not plan to attend this year, I hope to see you at next year’s festival. There are tickets available for $3 for students and $10 for adults for the Friday, February 13th 1:00pm and 8:00pm concerts. Thank you for your support and please contact me if you have any questions.”
